Douglas B. Golden PH.D

Dr. Golden has been working as a clinical psychologist and doing couples therapy for the past 35 years.  He grew up in Michigan, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in psychology from The Ohio State University.  He came to Oregon in 1976 and did an internship and residency at the Oregon Health Sciences University and began a full time private practice in 1983. He continues to be licensed to practice psychology in the States of Oregon and in Washington.

His interest in human relations started when he was a teenager when his father passed on his wisdom, gleaned from his many years working as a doctor of internal medicine. “Doug,” he said, “it all starts with being a good listener.”  While at the University of Michigan, he became actively involved in group process and the humanistic movement in psychology.  While at Ohio State he learned about how to modify behavior and attitudes with specific plans of action.

“While I have studied the writings and the works of many outstanding psychologists, scientists, teachers, clinicians, researchers, fictional writers, and spiritual masters over the years, much of my learning has come through my own experiences in working with people as a psychologist and through everyday living.  To this day I am constantly challenging myself to understand human dynamics and what contributes to healthy and unhealthy relationships and this book is the accumulation of my understandings.”
